Medical facilities have a distinct and very specific set of criteria regarding needs for effective lighting. Typically, a patient’s room is used in several ways throughout the day. As the place that a patient rests and spends a good portion of the day, as well as having visitors spend time, ambient light should light the room comfortably. Exams and certain tasks are also performed in the room, making it necessary for a brighter, focused light guided to a specific area, allowing a caregiver, nurse or other healthcare professional to perform tasks such as taking blood, checking vital signs, etc. A reading light should also be available to be used in either day or nighttime ambience.
