The world’s first office luminaire, Waldmann’s LAVIGO, awarded a Cradle to Cradle® certificate

Published: 4 years 28 days ago Wheeling, IL – The Waldmann LAVIGO was awarded the internationally recognized Cradle to Cradle® certificate for sustainability. The renowned, Stuttgart-based construction and consultancy company, Drees & Sommer, assisted in the evaluation.

To counteract shortages of raw materials and to conserve energy, products are being looked at to more effectively satisfy the principles of an ideal recycling economy.  The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute is a non-profit organization that administers the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard guiding designers and manufacturers through a continual improvement process that looks at a product through five quality categories — material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness. “Cradle to Cradle” means what it says, i.e. that products are manufactured from materials that are later used to make new products. All the materials used in the LAVIGO were identified as satisfying requirements. They were evaluated in terms of their toxicological and recycling credentials and, in some cases, improvements were made. In addition, this evaluation included verification of the product’s energy balance, the volume and quality of water required, and it’s compliance with social criteria.
